Area code additions in Canada (Saskatchewan and Ontario Customers Only)

To meet the growing demand for telecommunications services and numbers in Saskatchewan and Ontario, two new area codes will be introduced in October 2021.

The area code 474 will be introduced and exist within the 306/639 geographic area in Saskatchewan, and a new area code 742 will be introduced and exist within the 905/289/365 area of Ontario.

There will be no change to customers’ existing telephone numbers in the 306/639 or 905/289/365 areas, and existing numbers are not changed in any way.

  • Saskatchewan telephone numbers beginning with the new area codes 474 may begin to be assigned to customers’ new telephone lines starting October 2, 2021.
  • Ontario telephone numbers beginning with the new area code 742 may begin to be assigned to customers’ new telephone lines starting October 16, 2021.

10 digit dialing will continue to be used for all local calls within the area served by these area codes: to complete all local calls, you will need to dial the area code plus the telephone number.

Local and long distance calling areas and prices will not change with the adoption of the new area codes 474 and 742. Customers with telephone numbers in the new area code 474 will get the same calling areas as customers in the same exchange areas with telephone numbers in area code 306/639. Customers with telephone numbers in the new area code 742 will get the same calling areas as customers in the same exchange areas with telephone numbers in area codes 905/289/365.

N11 service access codes such as emergency calls (911), directory assistance (411), repair (611) and relay service (711) will continue to be dialed using 3‑digits.
